Dill is an example of a "mockingbird". He was just an innocent eight-year-old boy; yet, no one really paid any attention to him. He was passed along between family members. His mother and stepfather never paid him any attention. When he ran away to stay with Scout he told her "they stayed gone all the time, and when they were home, even then they'd go off in a room by themselves."
