     The relationship between the research labs, media, government, and industries, is a
complex one.  The research labs need money to do research, money which the
government, and industries possess.  In order to get the much needed research money, the
labs must show that what they are researching is worth the large sums of money that they
are requesting.  This is where the media comes into play.  Through the media, the research
lab publically displays what it is doing, and what good that this research could come to.
The public then sees this information and goes to the stock market and buys stock for the
company that is providing the funding for the research.  The company’s revenue goes up,
and is therefore more inclined to give more money for further research.
     The articles assigned, show this relationship well.  In the September 1996 article of
Scientific American, Dr. Folkman does a simple explaination of the problem he faced and
the ways that he overcame some of the obstacles to arrive at his goal at least partially
succesful.  He does not say that he has the cure, he does not say that he will be going
down in history as the man who single-handedly beat the monster disease, he simply states
