Appeasement

I realized this article is about appeasement because throughout the article it discusses China and the US giving into one another. The part that especially made me realize what it is about is when it said”… we have seldom gotten what we wanted when we appeased China, where as we succeeded the one time we stood firm.
This article discusses the US relationship with China. Currently the US is at good terms with China. However by having a relationship we have chosen to rturn against Taiwan. In order for China to maintain the relationship with us they insist we follow their “three noes”. These include; no independece for Tiawan, no United Nations seat, and no Us recognation of two Chinas.
Dean Acheson gave a speech in Jnuary 1950. In this speech he exclusded South Korea from the “defencive perimeter” of East Asia. Five months later North Korea attacked South Korea. Stilll to this day nobody knows if there was any connection between Acheson’s speech and the attack. We did learn something important from this inceden...
