Bob Marley is a legend and has influenced bands from all styles of music.  Bob was very interesting, and a great musician.  Showing respect for Marley, many bands from punk, R&B, rock and even country western music have covered his songs.  Not only a musician, Marley was a very holy man, very intent with his faith in Jah (god).  Bob Marley started playing when he was a teenager with a group consisting of Bunny Livingston and Peter McIntosh (later known as the Wailers).  Bob Marley and the Wailers continued writing music and introducing society to reggae music.  After several changes in Bob's musical line-up, he found the style he wanted and released several chart-topping albums. In the year 1977 Marley started having health problems which led to his death ("Bob Marley." 1-3).
Robert Nesta Marley was born February 6, 1945, near St. Ann, Jamaica, to his father, Norval Marley, and his mother, Cedella Malcolm.  When Bob was young he moved to Trenchtown, Jamaica (R., David 1).  "Marley began singing professionally at sixteen" ("Bob Marley." 1).  He released his first album, Judge Not (1961), and his second, One More Cup of Coffee (1962), but neither did well.  Later Marley banded with two friends, Bunny Livingston and Peter McIntosh (later known as Peter Tosh), who became the Wailers.  "Bob Marley acted as the leader of the band and he wrote most of the material" (R., David).  In 1965 the Wailers became very popular, and wrote several hits on the Coxsone-label (R., David 1).  "In 1966, Marley married Rita Anderson, and moved to the United States, where he stayed with his mother. But heeding the call of his homeland's fast-growing Rastafarian faith, Marley returned to Jamaica the same year" ("Bob

Marley." 1).  In 1967 Marley's wife gave birth to their first child, Cedella, and the next year she gave birth to their first son, David (better known as Ziggy) (R., David 1).
Marley's music started to drift from ska into a "rock steady" (slower ska or rude boy
music) style.  Close to the same time, Bob started his longtime contract with Island Records.  After signing with Island he could start sharing reggae with people all over the world. His first album on Island was Catch a Fire, which included the song "Stir it Up."  "From there, fueled by his Rastafarian faith and its intoxicating communion ("ganja"), Marley went to become reggae's ambassador" ("Bob Marley." 1-2).  In the early seventies Marley wasn't having any major U.S. hits, but Eric Clapton...
