In 1989 when the black and white logo that warned parents about the content in certain musical recordings was being enforced, kids under the age of 16 were not allowed to purchase those certain records/cd's or tapes. Now days there are more kids between the ages of 11 and 15 that are buying explicit content recordings than people of an older age group. The main purpose of the Parental Advisory sign was originally to stray kids away from the evil lyrics of the new generation of music, now I think the only purpose of the content warning sticker is to make the recording more tempting to buy. In my opinion the parental advisory sticker is not necessary because no one is enforcing the rules, all it is now is a symbol to make the liner notes in C.D's and tapes more cool looking. It all started in 1989 when the rap group the 2 live crew came out with their CD "As nasty as they wanna be". When the hit single came out "Me so Horney" parents around the United States were claiming that the CD and the song were extremely obscene. The parents complained to the National Parent Teacher Association (NPTA) that the recording was not appropriate for their children to be listening too. So the NPTA struck up a deal with the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) and the National Association of Recording Merchandisers (NARM) to put a noticeable logo on explicit recordings like that of the 2 Live Crew and the Beastie Boys. That is the creation of the parental advisory sign. Back then in the early 90's rap was just starting to emerge into the music scene, rap was considered by most as a more explicit ...
