Gore or Bush? The 2000 Elections are going to be held on November 7, 2000. There are two main candidates running for the office of President of the United States. The presidential nominee running for the Democratic Party is Albert Gore Jr. of Tennessee. The candidate running for president from the Republican Party is George W. Bush from Texas. The two candidates will face off in many debates over different issues concerning the public before they are elected on November 7th. Albert Gore Jr. was born on March 31, 1948, and is the son of the late U.S. Senator Albert Gore Sr. and Pauline Gore. He was brought up in Carthage, Tennessee, and Washington, D.C. He graduated from Harvard University with honors and a degree in government. After graduation, Al Gore enlisted in the United States Army and served in Vietnam. Gore’s Military Career ended not long after Vietnam. When Gore returned to Tennessee, he worked as an investigative reporter with the Tennessean in Nashville. He got his first start in politics by being elected to represent the state of Tennessee in the U.S. House of Representatives. After serving two terms in the House of Representatives, Gore was elected to the U.S. Senate in 1984 and again in 1990. Then on January 20, 1993, Albert Gore Jr. was inaugurated as the 45th Vice President of the United States. Al Gore was married on May 19, 1970 to Mary Elizabeth “Tipper” Aitcheson and they have four children. George W. Bush was born July 6, 1946 to the family of George and Barbara Bush in New Haven, Connecticut because his father was still a student at Yale when he was born. After his father graduated in 1948, the family moved to Odessa,Texas. 2/3 He later moved to Midland, Texas where he spent most of his childhood. George W. Bush attended school at Yale, where he majored in history. He later attended Harvard and earned a Masters of Business Administration in 1975. On November 5, 1977, George W. Bush married Laura Welch. He then served as an F-102 pilot for the Texas Air National Guard. He started working in the oil and gas business in 1975 and continued until1986.
