What is love? Love is a passion that you have inside that keeps you going on each day with a smile and forces you to get out of bed in the morning. People love everything from pets, parents, siblings, grandparents to sports. To quote a legend, "Baseball was, is, and always will be to me the best game in the world." There are two things that I have loved since I was born, my parents and baseball. Legends such as Babe Ruth, Ty Cobb, and Willie Mays led the way for modern icons such as Lenny Dykstra, Ken Griffey Junior, Mark McGwire, and Pudge Rodriguez. These modern day players are my role models, however my real heroes are my mom and my dad. The rich history of our nations past time makes baseball the best game on earth.
No other game has a history such as baseball. An early form of baseball could be traced back to 1085 where it is mentioned in England's Doomsday Book (Heitz and Thorn). Amazingly it was described as stool ball which was a primitive ball and stick game which cricket developed from. The real roots of American baseball stemmed from 1786 at Princeton University, where a group of students on campus formed the game and a year later faculty prohibited ball playing on account that it was too dangerous and un-gentleman like (Heitz and Thorn).
Baseball in many ways is a medicine that helps bring people together. Those who play it look at their teammates as brothers and as part of their families. A brotherhood like a national fraternity is created when a group of athletes compete together everyday. When the game is played at full throttle an adrenaline rush like a man jumping out of a plane can be felt. The feelings towards one another are unexplainable to outsiders, however cross the white lines and step onto the diamond and the emotions run through your body.
Fathers and sons are brought closer together by traveling to a ball game and talking about which team will win. As a youngster you look at your father as a God for taking you out to the park and buying you a hot dog during the seventh inning stretch. The bond baseball creates between a father and son is the glue that keeps the relationship together. As years go by and the little boy grows, he wants to separate from his parents and feel independent. The one thing that will stay constant is the love for discussing baseball and going to a game or two. No matter how old you get, baseball always brings you closer together.
When the young man becomes old enough to choose
