The Mockingbird Treatment
A number of times someone has judged someone without knowing the whole story. This seems to be the central theme throughout the novel ”To Kill A Mockingbird." This theme relates to the title of the novel because when a mockingbird is killed it is killed regardless of it's beautiful music, and appearance. This show how the killer misjudged it's prey and killed without knowing the other side of the story. There can also be people or other animals misjudged as is the mockingbird.
This novel has many characters who are similar to the mockingbird symbol. One character is Boo Radley. People judge Boo without knowing his side of the story. People believe rumors and myths created about him by someone who has misjudged him as well. The kids misjudged him when they said "Jem, naturally, was Boo: he went under the front steps and shrieked and howled from time to time," (Chp. 4, Pg. 43). This shows how they created a negative image for Boo that is not necessarily true.
