For their time the Aztecs were very advanced. Their empire stood for about 200 years until they were conquered. In this time the Aztecs had made many advances in religion, housing and clothing. They believed there were Gods for everything including, water, sun, hunting etc. The average house was not very big and was usually made of adobe but sometimes stone. Their clothing would tell everything about an Aztec. It would tell you if they were warriors, rich, poor, their levels in society, their levels in government etc. The Aztecs way of life is very interesting and has many cultural differences from what we are used to today. The Aztecs had a different religion than that of what we are used to today. The Aztecs believed in polytheism, or the belief in many Gods. Aztecs believed in two different families of Gods, the ancient Gods, which were worshiped by Aztecs for thousands of years, and the kinds of Gods that are there own Gods. One of these is Huitzilopochtli, who is the God of life, giving sun. He would reward his followers with victory in war. Aztecs believed if they didn't perform rituals the Gods would be angry with them and would punish them. Punishments would consist of famine, water shortage, many wars etc. Some of the sacrifices included killing and skinning a chosen man, and wearing his skin to encourage new skin so they could have a good harvest. This is what they did for sacrifice of the spring. They made different sacrifices for different times of the year. The sacrifices were extreme to what we are used to today, but this was part of every day life for the Aztec people. Aztec houses were very advanced for their time. Even the poor people lived in houses, they were small but suitable for living. There were one or two rooms made with branches plastered with mud. The roofs were thatched with straw. Wealthier people owned town houses. These were usually built with volcanic stone and covered with limestone to give it a white, shiny look. These houses were almost always ...
