Ernest Hemingway was a man of intrigue.  To learn of his intellect, talent and skill, you must read his novels, but to learn about his life and adventures you must probe further.  Some of his novels were about his life, but they do not tell all of the story.  He went from almost losing his life several times, to being involved in bull fighting, to moving all around the world and being married four times.  He was a lover, fighter and great writer.  Ernest Hemingway was a legend and should be remembered always, not just for his novels, but also for his life.
Ernest Hemingway was born July 21, 1899 in Oak Park, Illinois to Clarence and Grace Hemmingway.  He was the second oldest, his sisters were Marcelline, Ursula, Madelaine and Carol.  His one brother, Leicester, was almost sixteen years younger than Ernest (Hotchner 12)

In January of 1919, Ernest went back to his home in Oak Park.  Almost a year later he went to Toronto, Canada to help care for a family friends’ son while they were on an extended vacation.  While in Toronto, Ernest went to work for the Toronto Star Newspaper.  He was given space rates at a penny a word, and his first piece was printed on Valentine’s Day (Mitran 3).
After his stay in Toronto, he left for Chicago to f...
