across the border from German Bavaria. Adolf was the fourth child of his father Alois' third marriage. Alois Hitler was born in 1837, the illegitimate son of Maria Anna Schicklgruber and her unknown mate , possibly a local millworker name Johann Georg Hiedler. In 1885, Alois married Klara Polzol, 24, at the age of 48. As a boy Hitler received excellent marks in school. Upon his entrance into high school, Adolf's grades dropped dramatically. His world revolved around his aspirations of becoming an artist. In January of 1903 Hitler's father died of a massive hemorrhage of his lungs. This left his thirteen year old son, Adolf, the head of the Hitler household. At the age of 16, Hitler dropped out of high school and spent most of his time reading and daydreaming about his future. Hitler's mother died in 1907, so he left for Vienna, the capital of Austria-Hungary, to become an art student. Twice he failed the entrance examination of the Academt of Fine Arts. Discouraged, Adolf became more interested in the effective leadership and organization of the Social Democratic Party. It was at this time that Hitler began to form a strong hatred for the Jewish and the Slavs. Adolf moved to Munich, Germany in 1913. In August of 1914 World War I began . He served as a messenger, taking part in some of the most gruesome battles. During this time, Hitler became corporal, and endured a mustard gas attack. He was forced to slow his schedules while he recovered from the temporary blindness he had incurred. Many people were shocked when Germany surrendered in November of 1918. The Treaty of Versailles was signed, stating that Germany was responsible for the war. At this time, Germany's army was allowed no more than 100,000 men. These factors alone let other countries take over some of Germany's territory. The Rhineland, a fifteen year foreign occupation area, was provided to Germany. The roughest part of all is the reparations for war damages. The sums of these payments was so extreme that peace was hard to come by. Once Hitler was fully recovered from his blindness, he began attending meetings of a group called the German Worker's Party. Adolf soon became the leader because of his skill in politics and organization. He changed the name of the group to National Socialist German Worker's Par... This is not the end of the termpaper!
