Bible Essay

It is evident that God’s expectations of his chosen people are constantly increasing with every new generation.  The expectations increased with the father of  a great nation, Abraham.  Then the expectations kept rising all the way to the time when the Hebrews were wandering in the desert.  Some of his chosen people were more successful at pleasing God than others, which will be explained later.

Ever since the beginning of the world God has expected his creation, mankind, to obey him.  This dream was very quickly shattered by the eating of the forbidden fruit.  God continued to be angry with the world for there sins until there came a great man, Abraham.  God was very pleased with this man.  At first God simply told Abraham, then called Abram, to go to Canaan.  Abraham did as he was told and proceeded to this promise land.  God said in return for him doing this he would have more descendents than stars in the sky.  God also gave him the new land to live in.  God declared this new promise with the sacrifice of the animals and by changing Abram’s and Sarai’s names to Abraham and Sarah.  Then once again God tested Abraham by telling him to sacrifice his only son.  God’s expectations had now risen again.  Abraham knowing that it must be God’s will agreed to do it.  But God stopped Abraham because he knew that Abraham was willing to sacrifice everything to him.

That little part about Joseph was also important because it is the first part of the story of Moses.  The new Pharaoh had long since forgotten of Joseph and no longer liked the Hebrew people.  Pharaoh was thr...
