I. Introduction A. Stanford was founded by Leland Stanford B. My purpose is to persuade you that Stanford University is the best institution in the nation. C. Stanford is the best university in the United States due to: 1. Its reputation for one of the best educational programs in the nation. 2. Its top of the line students 3. Its award winning facility 4. Its tradition in sports and student activities II. Body A. Stanford has a reputation for having one of the best educational programs in the nation. 1. Stanford has a school of business, earth sciences, education, engineering, humanities, science, law, and medicine 2. Stanford has foreign study facilities in Asia, South America, Africa, and Europe. 3. Stanford leads the nation with 78 Rhodes Scholars 4. Over the past ten years, 70 percent of Stanford students who have been nominated for the Truman Scholarship have won it, in comparison to the 7% average for the rest of the schools. B. Stanford has the best student body in the nation. 1. Out of the 1606 freshman entering the university this year, 87 % were in the top 10% of their class, half made straight A's, and 99.8 % made a 3.0 or better. 2. Students are from every state except Delaware. 3. 97 students are from different countries. 4. Students are from a wide variety of racial backgrounds. a. African American- 8% b. Mexican American- 9% c. Native American- 1% d. Asian American- 23% e. International Students- 4% C. Stanford has one of the best faculties in the nation. 1.Out of the 1,534 faculty members, 13 have won Nobel prizes. a.
