The movies, "Mississippi Burning", "Boyz in the Hood", "Schindler's List", and "Philadelphia", all contain problems in which society faces towards the people or the community.  Each movie deals with the issues we are reading in the class.  These issues include civil rights, the AIDS epidemic, the Holocaust, and resolving a conflict.  All these issues are very serious matters.  Watching them points out that problems still exist thus removing the blindfolds off of the eyes of people who fail to see that.  "Seeking Justice and Creating Community" is the theme of the class and each movie can be related to this appropriate title.
"Mississippi Burning"
"Mississippi Burning" shows the real life prejudices against the black community in the south.  In a small town in Mississippi, the disappearance of three civil rights workers begin a chain of events in this town where the Ku Klux Klan can easily be found.  Eventually the boys were found dead and the feelings that shadowed over this town turned into racism and hatred.  The investigators of the crime seek justice by trying to help the black people in the community create a unity between the blacks and whites and help to eliminate the hatred.  Hatred in a community was a major issue because it brought on the destruction and burning of houses courtesy of the KKK.  FBI agent, Rupert, went out to find fault of the hatred by using the judicial system and the investigation system.  Unfortunately, racism even possessed the heart of the judge.
There are many examples to how the movie relates to the readings.  It relates to Plessy vs. Ferguson by Plessy trying to rid of the "Separate Car Act", and it also relates to Brown vs. Board of Education.  In Little Rock, Arkansas, the admitting of nine black students into an all white school created an uproar in the town.  This movie is a great example of how racism and hatred existed in the 1960's.  Seeing the KKK and how segregation filled the streets of the small town, made me realize that the United States was not such a wonderful place for anyone who was anything other than white.
"Boyz in the Hood"
"Boyz in the Hood" is a movie where a young boy, Tre, is faced with different types of conflicts while growing up in a rough neighborhood.  When Tre moved in with his father, Furious, he met up with his friends Ricky and Doughboy who happen to be brothers.  One night while Tre and his father were sleeping, a burglar who broke into their house and escaped awakened them.  Furious...
