Jefferson Davis: Leader of the Confederacy

Just before daybreak on April 12, 1861, the first shot of the Civil war was aimed at fort Sumter. The people of Charleston came out to watch as the war began. Lincoln immediately declared that the Confederate states were in a state of legal rebellion of the U.S. government. Little did Charleston know that this happy little war that they would all come out to watch would claim the lives of 360,000 Union members and 260,000 Confederate members and the total over 20 billion dollars. After Sarah’s death Davis stayed in virtual seclusion for seven years. After these sever years Davis felt that he had to move on, he meet Verina Howell a daughter of his friend, they seamed perfect for each other.  In 1845 Davis married Verina Howell (18 years younger) this made Davis happy and seamed to get him back on track.

The same year he married Verina Howell Davis entered the senate. Davis was a very different type of politician he talked strait and to the point, he gave no promises that he thought he couldn’t keep. Davis used facts and logic to win votes. Three months through his term he left to join the Mexican War, where he was asked to lead a platoon of men. In the battle of Buen...
