While all cancers appear to happen at a higher rate among this group of workers it also appears that brain cancer and leukemia are the highest risk. In fact a study done here in the United States found that electrical workers in east Texas developed brain cancer at a rate of 13 times more often than the average American does. The power generated at most power generating plants in the United States is considered a medium voltage typically, 20,000 volts (20 kv). This voltage is sent to transformers located at the power generating plant where it is stepped up to a higher voltage of either 115,000 volts (115 kv) or 230,000 volts (230 kv). These higher voltages are required to economically send this generated power over long distances to cities. When the power reaches the cities it goes to power distribution sub stations where it again goes through transformers. This time the voltage is stepped down. Typically it will go down to 14,000 volts (14 kv) and sent in to industrial as well as residential areas. After it gets to these areas it is transformed again by transformers either mounted on a power pole or in a vault or... This is not the end of the termpaper!
