Apple Computers

Apple Computers astonishing rise during the 1980’s had been an American business

success story of epic proportions.  For a company that rocketed out a garage in Los Altos Ca. to

become a pioneer of the New Information Age.  But the 1990’s had gotten off to a rocky start.

Apple’s profits were falling under fierce competition.  Its outlandish research projects were not

panning out.  The Mac had held a good ten year lead in technology over all other computers.

After reviewing the roller coaster-like ride that Apple computer took, it was apparent to

my team that Apple must become a much sleeker company.  Chopping out some of the fat and

closing some of the plants in Cupertino.  The company must also initiate a massive layoff of at

least 1/5th of the workers.  This would help them to be a much more efficient company and will

demonstrate a process of improvement towards success.  This restructure will include a

reorganization around the areas of function, such as, marketing, product research and

manufacturing departments.  This will also send a message to Apple customers and remaining

employees that Apple is in a transition stage for the better.

can save millions of dollars.  So Apple should manufacture their new iMac PC and other products

at a single location.  Shortages should be minimal with all of the products being produced out of a

single location.  If more than one location is needed, than re-open another plant to increase

manufacturing capability.  The manufacturing plants will be able to share knowledge enabling

them to excel as one.

Apple has to take a serious look at how they can sell more computers through retail

stores. My team would research a sales channel to sell the entire Apple computer product line

through. We would put together a proposal with a retail computer giant  like CompUSA or Best

Buy. The proposal would include a designated section of their floor space for sales Apple

Computer products.  This process ...
