     Since the invention of television, television has seen a rich source of history, laughter, tragedy, news and education.  Shows from education PBS, to the zany Singled Out, a teen dating show on MTV, to the lucrative but sometimes ridiculous talk shows, with their wide swing variety of topics have influenced American families.  Oprah Winfrey has become a household name as everybody can “tell” it to Oprah, having a keyword on America Online (OPRAH).  However, nothing has come close to portraying actual family life like the sitcom.  
     Sitcoms like The Cosby Show and Roseanne have portrayed many firsts in American life.  In Roseanne, for the for example, the mother character wasn’t the perfect mother, baking cookies and forever loving as in previous sitcoms.  She had a bad temper and was actually unfair sometimes.  In The Cosby Show, Phylicia Rashad plays an African American how actually has a career, is gorgeous and self-relia...
