The New Deal did not radically alter American business, but conserved and protected it.  Assess the validity of this statement.

     On October 24,1929, also knows as Black Thursday, the stock market plummet down and crashed.  Despite the attempts of wealthy bankers the market could not be restore to its original status.  At the time Herbert Hoover was president but the American people did not like his views on the Great Depression.  Hoover believed that the Great Depression would just pass and he decided to let a natural restoration occur.  In response the American people elected Franklin D. Roosevelt.  To counterattack the tragic event of the Great Depression Franklin D. Roosevelt made relief, recovery, and reform measures.  These acts and reforms, all together, were known as The New Deal.  The New Deal did not radically alter American business, but conserved and protected it.  To million of people, that suffered at the hands of the great depression, perhaps The New Deal was all they needed to provide some light of hope.
     Franklin D. Roosevelt’s strategy involved three components: industrial recovery, agricultural recovery, and short-term emergency relief for the jobless.  There were many reliefs, acts, and reforms that conserved American business.  One of them was the National Industrial Recovery Act (NIRA).  Under this law representative of the major industries, granted immunity form antitrust prosecution, drafted codes of “fair competition” for their industries.  These codes set production limits, prescribed wages and working conditions, and forbade price-cutting and unfair competitive practices.  The National Relief Act’s (NRA) t...
