Federal Bureau of Investigation

When disaster strikes in the United States, the FBI takes action.  Men and women from around the country are mobilized to solve criminal cases.  The FBI positions include: special agent, professional, administrative, technical, and clerical categories.  Whatever your background or expertise, you can help improve the safety and security of our country by working with the FBI.
All FBI agents adopt the FBI motto; Fidelity, Bravery, Integrity.  Their sign or the FBI seal was adopted in January 1941.  Each color and symbol in the seal has a special significance.  The color blue and the scales on the seal both signify justice.  The color red is equated with strength and courage.  The color white stands for light and truth.  As in the American flag, the seal contains one more red stripe than white.  The color gold represents the overall value of the seal.   The thirteen stares are representative of the thirteen original states in the Union.  The laurel leaves stand for academic fame and honor.  The 46 leaves in the two laurel branches represent the 46 states of the Union in 1908, when the FBI was founded.  The FBI's motto, "Fidelity, Bravery, Integrity," appears on the seal as a reminder of the qualities and motivating factors of the FBI agents.  The positioning of the words "Department of Justice" and "Federal Bureau of Investigation" are also important, due to the fact that the FBI falls under the jurisdiction of the Justice Department.  Finally, the jagged edges of the seal show the ruggedness of the Bureau and its ability to withstand the test of time.
The FBI is the principal investigative arm of the United States Department of Justice.  It has the authority and responsibility to investigate specific crimes assigned to it.  The FBI also is authorized to provide other law enforcement agencies with cooperative services, such as fingerprint identification, laboratory examinations, and police training.  The mission of the FBI is to uphold the law through the investigation of violations of federal criminal law, to protect the United States from foreign intelligence and terrorist activities, to provide leadership and law enforcement assistance to federal, state, local, and international agencies, and to perform these responsibilities in a manner that is responsive to the needs of the public, and is faithful to the Constitution of the United States.   To get a job with the FBI is easy, but a lot of training is required.
