For over 200 years, we the citizens of the United States have been living by the amendments of The Constitution. The mere fact that it has kept our nation together for 200 years, is proof enough that it deserves praise I must say that I completely support the ratification of this great document. Without it, our nation would have never become what it has today. Each of the amendments protects certain rights of people, without which democracy and every value that we believe in would not be possible. There are so many examples that one could give in support of the statement, “The Constitution is the backbone of our society.” For example, Amendment I of the Bill of Rights, Freedom of religion, speech, assembly, and petition. All of these liberties are what have enabled American Citizens to become the free-thinkers of the world. People ask, “What is the American culture?”, I can only respond with one word, “diversity.” Due to the freedoms that our government has provided us with, we have been made capable of opening our minds, and widening our paths. If we had remained under the strict rules of England in 1776, not only would North America have lost a great nation, but all across the globe would have lost a profound influence. Another one of the greatest amendment in my opinion is the fifth, the right to due process along with the ability to refrain from self-incrimination. For the past two centuries this right has served as an excellent element of the judicial system. It gives all the opportunity to a fair trial, with a jury, and with a defense.
