Galileo was also famous for proving that Aristotelian's Physics was wrong.

Aristotelian's Physics is the falling rate between two objects which was said to be that

when two objects were dropped at the same time, the heavier object would hit the ground

first. This was proven to be wrong by Galileo by his well known experiment at the

"tower." This experiment involved two cannonballs of different weight which was dropped

off at the Leaning Tower of Pisa at the same time. After these objects were dropped they

landed at the same exact time and this proved that Aristotle was wrong. [Wallace, W.A.,

Galileo and his sources]

Galileo was one of the first to say that the Earth rotates around the sun, not the sun

around the Earth. He did make several speeches about his discoveries which some people

said were not true so they got frustrated with his theory. The Roman Catholic Church, led

by Maffeo Barberinic, the Pope at the time had him state in a speech that his theory was

wrong and that he was sorry that he had mislead the people, but shortly after his speech it

was said that he was over heard muttering "nevertheless it moves."

Galileo was a very intelligent man and with this great wisdom he did many great

things for science. He was right about most of his theories that he proclaimed to the

public, but they seemed to think otherwise. On January 8, 1642, Galileo the great scientist

died. Even though Galileo was right, the Roman Catholic Church clung to their position

but 350 years later Galileo was forgiven for his so called crimes in 1633. [  Wallace, W.A.,

Galileo's Logical Treatises]
