Hypothesis

     Because it is too complicated, the researcher cannot test for the exact amount of ozone present around Sikeston High School and the surrounding streets.  Therefore the researcher will theorize on its presence.  Ozone is formed naturally by lighting and ultraviolet radiation from the sun. The researcher will surmise that there is enough ozone found in the lower atmosphere around Sikeston High School and the surrounding streets to produce cracks in a six inch rubber band in an exposure time of 4 days. The anticipated deterioration of the rubber band is logical given the known results of sunlight to the materials used to produce the rubber band.

Materials:
          Magnifying glass
          Two strong rubber bands (12cm long and 6cm wide)
          2 ounce fishing weight
          Popsicle stick
          Fishing hook
          16”x16” cardboard box
