Capital Punishment is a step in the right direction when justice is concerned and is just retribution to victims and families of victims. I believe that it is an effective deterrent of violent crime and the only acceptable punishment in cases such as premeditated murder, first degree murder and other equally or greater heinous crimes. Some people argue that capital punishment has no effect on crime but they are wrong, I have logical proof. The fact is plain, simple, and totally logical. If you kill the killer, the killer no longer has the capacity to kill. Opposition of capital punishment argues that people do not examine the risks vs. rewards chart before they murder someone. In my opinion this is false, in fact what I learned in philosophy and psychology is that every normal person examines risks vs. consequences before acting unless they suffer from a psychosis. If there were no consequences of killing then almost everyone would be killing, in fact fear of persecution is one of the few things that keep society from anarchy. Also if the prisoner were found insane, I believe that he or she should not be treated differently then any other person that would be discrimination according to the bill of rights. In my opinion every citizen is entitled to the rights provided by the constitution. Capital punishment is also an economical alternative to life in prison, we should not have to pay for a killer's living expenses, the victim's money shouldn't go to supporting and/or so called "rehabilitation" of their savage attacker.
