Anti-Semitism and Nazi Hatred


Many people think that hatred towards the Jews began with Hitler.  That's simple not true.  Anti-Semitism began in ancient times because of the oddity of the Jewish religion.  The Jews worshipped one "invisible deity" while most other religions worshipped a group of man-like Gods with special powers. (Patterson, pg. 3)  Their neighbors in this way gradually alienated the Jews.  Even other Christ-worshipping religions became anti-Semitic.  Martin Luther said that Christians have "no enemy more cruel, more venomous and violent than a true Jew." (Altshuler, pg. 20)  Hitler praised Luther for his hate toward Jews.
Once Hitler came into power he began to act upon his anti-Semitic ideas.  He had a theory on Jewish inferiority that was taught daily in schools.  His theory was put almost everywhere, in almost everything.  Songs were written, propaganda was produced, books were made, and the idea that Jews were an inferior race was spread around.  "When Jewish blood spurts from the knife then everything will be fine." (Patterson, pg. 68)  Those are the lyrics to the Horst Wessel song, a creation of Hitler's.  German children were taught that Judaism "must be wiped out in accordance to the führer's aims." (Patterson, pg. 89)  Hitler tried to get to children early on and teach them that Jews were evil.  Several children's books were written around the theory of Jewish inferiority.  The Nazis formed a group called the SS, which was founded on the belief that Jews were not people, but were parasites, and that people would die wherever Jews lived.
Hitler and the Nazis felt it not only necessary to discriminate against the Jews, but to also write laws restricting the Jews rights.  The entire time that the Nazis were in power, more than 400 anti-Semitic laws were placed into effect in Germany and Austria. (Patte...
