There will come a time in our lives when the decision of birth control will have to be made.  Kurt and Lisa, his girlfriend, came to this decision about two months ago.  They had been dating at that point for close to a year.  Kurt and Lisa decided mutually that they were going to share their bodies with each other.  Their first idea was to use a condom.  They had seen and heard television and radio ads a thousand times.  They discussed it and figured that it is not really fair for Kurt to have all the responsibility.  Then they thought of a more equal way.  Lisa came up with the idea of getting the pill, that way they can split the price and it seemed fair to both.  Still, the responsibility was not equal.  Is there such a way that the responsibility of contraception can be undoubtedly shared?  Since it is hard to say if the responsibility is equal not by who is using it and who is not, then look at a different aspect. Look at the sharing of money, time, and effort.  I think birth control can be considered an equal responsibility in today's society.
     Letitia Anne Peplau and Susan Miller Campbell's story, The Balance of Power in Dating, defines what the word power means.  They say that the definition of power is "One person's ability to influence the behavior of another to achieve personal goals-cannot be observed directly, but must be inferred from behavior."   This definition suggests that power is only used to manipulate one person's thoughts, actions, or anything in the relationship just to get what the dominator wants, and it can only be seen through their acts.
The definition of power is true in relationships.  Mike and Tiff had fights constantly throughout their relationship. Mike is that kind of guy that was macho to the outside world just so no one might see beyond his muscles.  Mike would talk down to Tiff just so that her self-esteem would never rise above what it should be according to him.  He also bossed and manipulated her to do things she did not want to do.  Such as, doing his chores and running errands for him.  Mike did not believe in birth control.  If they were going to have sex either she was going to have to something about it or then she would have to deal with the chances of getting pregnant.  Mike was power hungry, but did not want to hold the responsibility in the relationship.  Tiff being as submissive as she was ended up giving in to his every command.  She did not know how to take responsibility for herself, let alone for the ...
