Adolf Hitler was born on April 20, 1889, in Braunau, Austria, a small town just outside of Germany.  Adolf received good marks during elementary school but became a poor student in high school.  Adolf decided he wanted to become an artist, but this angered his ill tempered father.  His father died when Adolf was 14, and at the age of 16 Adolf quit school.  Because Adolf’s mother received a pension he did not have to go to work.  Instead he spent his time daydreaming, drawing, and reading books.

     In 1907, Adolf Hitler moved to Vienna in search of becoming an artist.  He wanted to become an art student at the Academy of Fine Arts, but failed the entrance examination twice.  His mother died that year and he received some money that his mother had left him, he also inherited some money from his aunt.  Hitler became fiercely nationalistic and developed a hatred for Jews and Slavs.

In 1913, He moved to Munich, Germany.  One year later in 1914 World War One began and Hitler volunteered for service in the German army.  He served valiantly as a messenger on the Western Front for most of the was taking part in some of the bloodiest battles.  He was wounded and twce decorated for bravery.  He rose only to the rank of Corporal.  In 1918 when Germany surrendered Hitler was in a Hospital recovering from temporary blindness from exposure to mustard gas.  He believed that the unity of the German nation was threatened, and that he must attempt to save Germany.  After World War One Germany was forced to sigh the Treaty of Versailles.  

     After Hitler’s recovery from the mustard gas he returned to Munich and stayed in the army till March 1920.  He then began attending nationalist group meetings.  He joined the "German Workers Party", and it later became known as the "Nazi Party".  The Nazi party demanded that citizens of non-German or Jewish origin be deprived of German Citizenship, and they called for the cancellation of the Treaty of Versailles.  Adolf Hitler was a great politician and organizer.  He could stir up great crowds of people with his astonishing speeches.  He became the leader of the Nazi Party and attacked the government and declared that the Nazi Party could restore the economy and lead Germany to greatness again.  

He also organized a private army called "Storm Troopers".  Hitler used this army to fight the armies of Communist, Social Democratic, and other parties who opposed the Nazis.  By Oct...
