The career that I have chosen for my report and that I may choose to pursue, is that of a chemist.  Chemists
spend their time studying and experimenting with chemicals of different varieties.  This is what is known as
chemistry. Five subdivisions, or branches, are used to classify the various aspects of chemistry.  These five
are Biochemistry, Physical Chemistry, Geochemistry, Nuclear Chemistry, and Analytical Chemistry.

     The two school subjects most relevant to chemistry are Mathematics and Science.  Pursuing
chemistry would allow me to work with my mind, be creative, earn good wages, and maybe even try out
some of my own ideas.  Some of the abilities that would be required of me, should I follow this career path,
are scientific, mathematical, and possibly spatial.  At a minimum, chemists need a bachelor’s degree.  The
most successful, however, have earned a Ph.D. in chemistry.  Although the career interest survey indicates
that the job outlook for a chemist is excellent, I recently found more update information stating, in my own
words, the following.

For practitioners of chemistry, there is very little to cheer about in the results from the latest American
Chemical Society annual survey of the employment situation and salaries of its members.

The survey indicates that the percentage of chemists who are jobless but seeking employment, 3.1%, is the
highest in 24 years. This percentage is based on the population of chemists surveyed that excludes those
unemployed but not seeking work. It is exceeded only by the 3.2% figure in 1972, a very poor year for the
chemistry profession. In addition, the percentage of those responding to the survey this year who are
without full-time jobs,
slightly more than 12%...
